Installing a kitchen sink:
When to Call a Professional
- Installing the plumbing beneath your sink is generally a simple process, but always refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for specific guidelines.
- For new installs, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installing the basket strainer, drainpipes, faucet, sprayer, and garbage disposal.
How to Remove an Existing Sink
- Turn off all power for circuits around the sink and shut off the water supply below the faucet.
- Open the faucet to relieve the pressure, then disconnect the supply lines, drain lines, and garbage disposal.
- Remove the garbage disposal by loosening the mounting hardware and twisting it off.
- Loosen and slide out the mounting clips beneath the sink to completely remove the old sink.
How to Install a Drop-In Kitchen Sink
- Measure and mark the desired location of the sink on the countertop.
- Drill a hole in each corner on the inside of the cut line.
- Use a jigsaw to cut along the lines between each hole.
- Remove the discarded section and place the sink inside the hole to check the fit.
- If satisfied with the fit, apply sealant if necessary, and install the plumbing fixtures, garbage disposal, and connect the drain pipes as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
